Real estate photography in Rancho Santa Fe
San Diego County
Rancho Santa Fe is an unincorporated community of large lots, eucalyptus groves, riding trails and private golf clubs, centered on the small village around the Inn. Inside the Covenant, the Rancho Santa Fe Association reviews architecture and land use. Nearby sit gated communities with their own associations, such as Fairbanks Ranch, The Bridges and Rancho Santa Fe Farms.
Homes in Rancho Santa Fe
Properties here often cover several acres, with the main house set back on a long drive and room for a guest house, a pool, a tennis court, barns, an arena and citrus or avocado groves. In the Covenant, many homes follow the Spanish Colonial Revival style of the original village, while newer homes range from farmhouse to contemporary. A shoot covers more than the main house. Buyers want to see how the parts of the property fit together, and drone photos and video show that best.
In the gated communities, lots are often smaller than in the Covenant, but the homes are large. Many sit on a fairway or look toward the hills. There the photos show the home, the outdoor rooms and its place on the course, and the association’s rules shape when and how we fly.

Gates and guest lists
Many Rancho Santa Fe properties sit behind a gate, either a guard house or a coded entry at the end of a private drive. Add us to the guest list or send the code before the shoot day, and find out whether the community needs notice before a drone flight.
Plan for the whole property
A large property takes longer to cover inside and out. When you book, list the guest house, barn, arena, courts and other buildings, so we can plan the order of the shoot and the drone flight around the light.
Twilight and landscape lighting
Twilight works well here because the grounds are often lit: paths, trees, the pool and the facade. Set the landscape and pool lights to come on before sunset, and we photograph the home as the sky darkens.

Questions about shoots in Rancho Santa Fe
How long does a shoot take on a large Rancho Santa Fe property?
It depends on the size of the home and how many buildings and outdoor areas there are. We plan the time from the square footage and the list of structures you give us when booking, and tell you what to expect before the shoot.
Are drone flights allowed in the Covenant and Fairbanks Ranch?
Yes, as far as the FAA is concerned. Rancho Santa Fe sits outside the controlled airspace around local airports, so a flight there needs no FAA authorization. Some associations ask for notice or have their own rules about drones, so we confirm those with you before the shoot. Our drone pilots are FAA Part 107 certified.
Is a video worth it for a Rancho Santa Fe listing?
For a property with land, a guest house and several outdoor areas, usually yes. Video shows how the spaces connect in a way still photos can’t, and aerial video shows the drive, the grounds and the setting among the groves and hills.
