Real estate photography in Carlsbad
San Diego County
Aerial9 Media is based in Carlsbad. The city runs from the beach and three lagoons, Buena Vista, Agua Hedionda and Batiquitos, east to the hills of Calavera and La Costa. A Village cottage, an Aviara fairway home and a newer Bressi Ranch house each need a different plan.
Homes in Carlsbad
Near the coast, many listings are beach cottages and new builds on small lots in the Village, older homes and new builds on larger lots in Olde Carlsbad, or ocean-view homes on the Terramar bluffs. Buyers want to know how far it is to the sand. We show the walk to the beach, the view from the upper rooms and decks, and the light inside, and drone photos place the home between the ocean, the lagoons and the Village shops.
Away from the beach, most listings sit in planned communities like Aviara, La Costa, Bressi Ranch, Calavera Hills and Robertson Ranch, usually with an HOA, shared pools and parks. Homes there can look a lot like their neighbors. The photos focus on what sets this one apart: the lot, a view toward the ocean or the hills, the backyard and the upgrades. A floor plan helps buyers compare it with the same model down the street.

Planning a shoot in Carlsbad
Drone flights near Palomar Airport
McClellan-Palomar Airport sits in the middle of the city, and most of Carlsbad is in its controlled airspace. We check every address before the shoot and request FAA authorization for the drone flight when the home falls inside it. Where the FAA map allows little or no automatic approval, as in Bressi Ranch and parts of Aviara, Robertson Ranch and Calavera Hills, the request is reviewed by hand and must go in at least 72 hours before the flight.
Morning cloud near the coast
In May and June, the marine layer often covers the Village and Terramar until late morning, while La Costa and Bressi Ranch tend to clear sooner. We usually plan exterior and drone photos for beach-area homes in the afternoon.
Lagoon and golf course lots
Homes above Batiquitos or Agua Hedionda Lagoon, or along the fairways in Aviara and La Costa, sell partly on what surrounds them. One drone photo shows the water, the course and the open space behind the lot.

Questions about shoots in Carlsbad
Does Palomar Airport affect drone photos in Carlsbad?
For most addresses, yes. About three quarters of the city is inside its controlled airspace, and for those homes we get FAA authorization before the flight. If a flight can’t be approved at that spot, we tell you before the shoot and photograph the exterior from the ground.
What should the photos show for a home in Bressi Ranch or Robertson Ranch?
Start with what makes it different from the homes around it: its spot on the street, the view, the yard and the upgrades. A few photos of the community pools, parks and trails help too, since buyers in these neighborhoods ask about them.
Can I book a Carlsbad shoot online?
Yes. Choose a package in the booking portal, enter the home’s square footage and pick a date, ideally at least 48 hours ahead. If the listing needs to go up sooner, call us at 760-585-9999. Homes close to the runway need 72 hours for the drone approval, so book those early.
