Real estate photography in Del Mar

San Diego County

Del Mar is a small beach town between the San Dieguito Lagoon and Torrey Pines, with the Fairgrounds and the racetrack at its north end and the village along Camino del Mar. Homes range from beach houses in the Beach Colony to hillside view homes in Olde Del Mar, and the Del Mar Heights neighborhood next door shares the Del Mar address.

Homes in Del Mar

In the Beach Colony, homes sit close together on flat lots near the sand, and the oceanfront rows look out on the beach or the river mouth. Up the hill in Olde Del Mar, streets wind, lots are steep and many homes step up several levels to take in the view. In both, buyers come for the view, so we photograph rooms toward the windows as well as away from them. The drone shows the beach, the bluffs and the village around the home.

Just outside the city limits, Del Mar Heights and the streets east and south of Crest Canyon are mostly single-family homes on larger lots. Some have been remodeled or rebuilt, and some have ocean or canyon views. Buyers there weigh the yard, the street and the walk to the bluffs or the canyon trails, and the photos and drone should show all three.

Planning a shoot in Del Mar

  1. Fair and racing season

The county fair in early summer, the racing season that follows and the shorter fall meet in November bring heavy traffic around the Fairgrounds, Via de la Valle and Jimmy Durante Boulevard. We plan arrival times around the event schedule, and homes near the north end may need a parking plan on those days.

  2. City permit for drone photos

Del Mar requires a city permit for every commercial drone flight, and the application is due five working days before the shoot. Flights over the Fairgrounds also need the Fairgrounds’ permission. Book early if the listing needs drone photos.

  3. Views from the hills

In Olde Del Mar and on the hills above the village, the ocean view is usually what sells the home. We plan exterior and drone photos for clear afternoon light, and twilight photos can add the village lights and the evening sky over the water.

Questions about shoots in Del Mar

When should I schedule a Del Mar shoot during the fair or race season?

Weekday mornings are usually easiest, before traffic builds around the Fairgrounds. If you are listing during either event, book early so we can pick a time that avoids the busiest hours.

Is Del Mar Heights part of Del Mar?

Not officially. Del Mar Heights is in the City of San Diego but uses Del Mar addresses, and its homes and lots differ from those in the city of Del Mar. Larger yards, canyon edges and the walk to the Torrey Pines trails are often worth showing.

Can I get a Del Mar listing shot on short notice?

Call 760-585-9999 and we will check the schedule. Drone photos are the exception: Del Mar’s city permit must be filed five working days before the shoot. For anything 48 hours or more away, the booking portal is quickest: choose the package and the time there.
